A NEWSLETTER FROM SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

OUT AND ABOUT THE GROUPS

Some very worthwhile visits have been recently made to Scouting Groups and other activities.

On the 14th of October, “Pop”, “Toomai” and “Chappy” made a visit to the Kwinana Scouts. All were very favorably received and were kept busy as the Team outlined various aspects of the Duty to God program of Scouts. The introduction of a new Work Program entitled “God and Me” drew from the girls and boys a wide range of responses to the questions. This is a good basis for Leaders to follow on, and ask them how they would answer the questions at a later time, perhaps when six months or nine months had passed and it was reviewed again. You can get copies of this program from the Spiritual Development Team to be used in your local Group.

More recently, on October the 20th, the Team had the Amelia Heights Cub Pack come to the Centre for a Program on Spiritual Development. They were given three activities to take part in. The first was the “God and Me” quiz, and the others included a Computer game on Religions and another one making a Pyramid so as to learn the Cub Promise.

Disc PushThe three Sixes then took part in an activity game of “Push the disk”, a race which gave some opportunity for real competition among them. The Cubs were all happily engaged in the program and given much opportunity of learning more about Duty to God.

Leaders are invited to enquire about a Booking of the Centre for the members of their Scout Group to come along for a night’s activity to learn more abut the programs which we can present.

VENTURERS ON THE GO

Regretfully we had to cancel the Venturer Workshop recently due to a lack of registrations.

That was a pity as we were prepared to put a lot of work into the Program. For instance, “Look at what you missed out on; ”Discussion on the Aims and Principles of Scouting. Do you believe in anything – this was in relation to Spiritual values.

ForrestThe W.O. S. M. position on Religion in Scouting. And a profitable time spent together discussing, “How council Members and Leaders can help the Unit seeking the way.”

Think over these questions and plan with us for such a similar Workshop in next years schedule.

Meanwhile, here is a prayer for you to mull over, and you can consider it with the Unit, in discussion or in a practical way.

A VENTURERS PRAYER

Lord, we thank you for letting us come once again to marvel at your
creation. We hope that those in the group who are new to this
activity will leave with the same sense of wonder that
we always feel as we step into a cave.

We treat these activities as fun, but always with a sense of wonder
at the thousands of years required to create even the smallest
of the features at which we look.

Help us to preserve your work, both for ourselves and for
future generations of Scouts and Cavers.
Amen.
